Recent results have now confirmed that Campbell of Auchinbreck carried the R-FT353107 SNP mutation. This latest result has a rock solid pedigree and confirms two previous kits. It is also lines as expected with other Argyll lineage kits.
The general pathway of descent for the Big Tree of mankind is as follows starting with the Scottish modal haplotype of R-L1065: L1065 > FTC495 > FGC10125 > FGC10113 > FGC10116 > FGC10124 > A5919 > BY58693 > FT33170 > FT353107
The bulk of Clan Campbell related to the Argyll lineage begins with R-FGC10116. Above that level other Clans begin to appear such as Urquhart and MacDuffie/McAfee indicating a shared common ancestor.
This result has implications for many long-standing genealogies that are floating around on the internet claiming to be descended from Auchinbreck. Kits from those lines have shown these claims to not be valid. Duncan Campbell and Mary (prob. not McCoy but Ramsay) in VA ( they align with Campbell of Inverawe) is just one example. The Project is aware of many more such cases.
All questions are welcome. Just find a Campbell DNA Project Team member and they will be happy to answer! The CCSNA genealogist has her hands full at the moment and she is also a Team member so if possible let’s try not to burden her further at this time. Thanks!
