Haplogroup R-BY82148 is one of two known “sons” of R-A5919. The other “sons” is called R-BY58693. The parent R-A5919 contains the continuation of the Campbells of Lochawe after Campbell of Loudoun branched off as R-FGC10122. This split is important because it places an upper limit to the dating for R-A5919. At the lower end on the Haplotree see R-BY58693 established by descendants of Campbell of Dunstaffnage and also descendants of Lord Duncan Na-Adh telling us it had to have been passed to them from Colin Iongantach. Somewhere between these to dates R-BY82148 must have broken off.

Haplogroup R-A5919 has two “sons”. It has been determined through BigY testing that the line of the Earls and Dukes, aka the Chiefly line, continued down the R-BY58693 branch. Adjacent to that branch is R-BY82148, it’s brother or cousin branch.
At one point it was suspected that this branch may represent the line that spawned the cadet house of Barbreck descended from John “Annam”, or John the Weak, the older brother to Lord Duncan.
However, with more recent results that is beginning to look less and less like a possibility. The implication is that we must look further back, or up, the genealogical tree for a candidate. And according to “the genealogies” the next available cadet would be the house of Melfort and Kenmore.
This represents a complication however as that cadet is also suspected of the haplogroup BY120755 genetic branch! The reason it was suspected as such was that this branch was thought to be Barbreck as stated.
This group is created to help explore the possibilities for this genetic branch.
