Since my own line traces back to the Cowal peninsula, in the Glendaruel valley, to a farm called Kildalvan, I became familiar with many of the Campbell families that inhabited the region. To the west of the valley toward Dunoon I found several McIver-Campbell families. I’ll see if I can find their locations and reply back to this post.

The reason I started looking at all the families was for the purposes involving a process of elimination to narrow down candidates that still could be related to my own line. This was before BigY testing confirmed our sharing a common ancestor with the Campbells of Craignish and Inverneill. I should note that it appears my line was banished from Scotland for participation in the 9th Earl’s rebellion in 1685, which is apparently before the creation of Inverneill. However we are in the same haplotree branch as they are.

What has interested me about McIver-Campbells is their said place of orogin is very near to the Craignish peninsula. So how did we all come to be in Cowal. The McIver-Campbells may hold a clue beginning with Asknish.
