McCutcheon (and variants) are one of the seven “sons” of R-FGC10124. They occupy one of those seven haplogroups almost exclusively. So genetically they undoubtedly share a common ancestor with the Campbells of Lochow. Generally this comes as a surprise to many of the name as they have thought of themselves as cadets of a sort to McDonald for some time. But who are they, without a Campbell in sight? The answer may be that they were originally MacEarchern and in turn share that common ancestor with Campbells of Lochow. That in and of itself would be another surprise! It’s a theory for now.
