The oldest or parent branch now is shown to be located in County Tipperary, Ireland. As seen above there are three branches derived from that branch. Locally, this makes some sense in that they would have migrated further from an origin point.
One of those “sons” is centered on County Down, Ireland. The County Down McCutcheon researchers have traced themselves back to Kintyre in Scotland. Since they are derived from the County Tipperary group, it would seem that this is a part of the older groups history that has been forgotten by them. To date we have not been able to find a paper connection between the two groups.
The other two “sons” of the County Tipperary group are both located in the United States. One is based in Virginia and the other based in South Carolina. At the time of this writing is does not appear that one is derived from the other. However, the older County Tipperary group contains what appears to be one kit that traces itself to Virginia. If this kit was upgraded and conformed to be part of the County Tipperary group we could say with some degree of certainty that the Virginia group came from County Tipperary.
The South Carolina grouping contains one matching kit that traces to County Tyrone. It’s rather obvious that county Tyrone is much closer to County Down. So we must first consider whether or not the South Carolina group migrated from County Down.
These are initial impressions that need further research and most BigY700 testing from FTDNA to further develop, confirm or deny the ideas above. These new suspected groupings (not all kits have a confirmed Haplogroup assignment) do represent a minor breakthrough for that branch of Clan Campbell.
Stay tuned! 🙂
